Whale watching in Sri Lanka is a popular and thrilling activity that allows visitors to witness some of the largest creatures on Earth in their natural habitat. The best time for whale watching in Sri Lanka varies depending on the region. In Mirissa, on the south coast, the whale watching season generally runs from November to April, with December to March being the peak months. In Trincomalee, on the east coast, the season is from May to October.
Species to Spot: Sri Lanka's waters are home to several species of whales, including the majestic blue whale, the largest animal on the planet. Other species commonly spotted include sperm whales, humpback whales, Bryde's whales, and occasionally, even orcas (killer whales). Dolphins, including spinner dolphins, are also frequently seen during whale watching excursions.
